Pilot's Badge

This badge is given to all pilots who completed training

Observer Badge

This badge was awarded after the completion of two months qualifying service, after five operational flights as observer or if the recipient was wounded while posted as an observer (prior to the comletion of the five flights).

Pilot Observer Badge

This was awarded to personnel who qualified as both pilot and observer.

Air Gunner Badge

This was worn by all Luftwaffe airgunners, flight engineers and aircrew meteorologists who completed two months training or had participated in five operational flights. This badge could be awarded sooner if the recipient was wounded during an operational flight

Bomber Clasp

Awarded to crews of Heavy, Medium and Dive bombers.

 

Night Fighter Clasp

Awarded to pilots and crews who flew with the Nachtjagd (Night Wing) fighters. Different levels were awarded according to the number of operational flights, BRONZE for 20 flights, SILVER for 60 and GOLD for 100.

Iron Cross 2nd Class (EK2)

This badge is awarded for a single act
of outstanding combat bravery above
and beyond the call of duty.

Iron Cros 1st Class (EK1)

This badge is awarded to a pilot having
the previous award of the EK2 or its Spange,
and accumulation of 5 points total,
1 point for downing a single-engine aircraft,
2 points for a twin-engine aircraft
and 3 points for a four-engine aircraft.
All points were x2 at night.
Knights Cross

This badge is awarded to a pilot having
the previous award of the EK1 or its Spange,
and accumulation of (initially) 20 points total.
This total was continuously raised as the war went on.
